Two time winning Melbourne Cup jockey to accompany Melbourne Cup on its Tour of Woodside
THE 2024 Melbourne Cup will tour will make its way to Woodside Beach Hotel on October 9 but first it will make a stop at Yarram and District Health Services Crossley House where residents will be able to hold the cup and enjoy morning tea with special guests from Racing Victoria including a Melbourne Cup Jockey –it has now been confirmed that jockey will be John Letts AM, John is a Australian Hall of Famer and two time winning Melbourne Cup Jocky (1972/1980)
Then it will head out to Mack Creek to Wulgunggo Ngalu.
Following a short visit there it will make it way to Woodside Beach and the Surf Club where local school children will get the opportunity to have their photo taken with the club and enjoy lunch.
Then its off to the Woodside Beach Hotel. That evening from 7 pm a Night at the Races has been organised. Tickets to the Night at the Races are available on their facebook page
Part owner of the Woodside Beach Hotel Clint Hillas is the man responsible for getting the Melbourne Cup to our district and has been busily organising all the different groups so that as many people as possible will be able to enjoy the visit.
“In addition to the tour destinations, Racing Victoria are thrilled to announce the 24 National Sweep locations for this year. These rural and regional communities have been allocated starting barriers for the Cup, with representatives from each town invited to experience Lexus Melbourne Cup Day first-hand in Melbourne. The town that draws the barrier of the Cup-winning horse will receive a generous cash prize of $50,000 to support a charity of the community’s choice,” he said.
