Yarram rocked by armed robbery
A statement from Police has been released regarding the armed robbery in Yarram in the early hours of this morning.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery in Yarram in the early hours of Friday, July 12.
Officers have been told an unknown male and female entered a business on James Street about 4.15am. It is believed both offenders, who were armed with firearms, attempted to steal an ATM and tills but were unsuccessful and fled the scene,” the statement says.
“There were three staff members present during the incident, but no one was physically injured. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or CCTV footage, are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.”
The Yarram Plaza, businesses - Woolworths, Moores Butchers and BWS along with Yarram Plaza Bakery were forced to remain closed until around midday on Friday as detectives scoured the premises for evidence.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the town and prompted calls for more law enforcement officers and a 24-hour police station by community members following reports that Yarram crime rate had risen by a massive 31 percent in the past year.
