LSVF slammed by council
Wellington Shire Councillors have passed a notice of motion which called on Council to write to the State Government expressing their displeasure at LSVF levy.
Councillor Wells raised a number of issues in his notice of motion including the burden this will place on the farming communities and the burden it will place on council staff who will be required to collect it.
Councilor Rossetti did not hold back in his assessment of the levy say it was a gutless tax grab.
“Fair to say it is a disgraceful attack on our rural areas, ’he said.” It is an outrageous tax hike.”
Councilor Lowe put his support behind the notice of motion saying that Wellington Shire was expected to balance their budget and state and federal governments should do the same.
“The role of local government is to care for our community. If Wellington Shire can balance their budget, the state should be required to do the same and not be passing this levy burden onto councils.”
Councilor Stephens called the levy unfair, given that council has rate caps. “I strongly support this motion,”he said.
