Hyland Highway crumbles

The push to fix local roads has never been more urgent with a section of the Hyland Highway, which is the main carriageway between Traralgon, Yarram and Woodside falling away and causing major traffic delays.

The section of the road is near Campbells Road Carrajung Lower, just past the Grand Ridge Road main intersection.

For more than 12 months this section of road has been a concern.

Locals complained to Vic Road, and when it appeared their concerns were being ignored they contacted National Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien who is the state government shadow minister for roads.

The road was patched in April.

However, heavy rain in that area over the past two weeks saw the road under the patch give way, creating a sinkhole.

Vic Roads have been and restricted the traffic to one lane. A traffic light controls the traffic around that area.

Work crews were onsight again today (Tuesday, December 6) assessing the damage.
