Communication on Quarry

Yarram Radial Timber owner Chris McEvoy has reached out to Carrajung couple Glenn Todd and Tiffany Harrison it the hope that he can ease their minds about a proposed Quarry on his property.

Mr McEvoy said he was alarmed when he read the media release that they put out just before Christmas.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I about communicating with the community and our neighbours so I was quite distressed when I read this story,” he said.

Todd and Harrison who bought the Carrajung Lower property around 2 years ago and moved there around 18 months ago, said that they were shocked when they say a planning permit notice on a post at the property.

Their concerns were that the track leading to the proposed quarry was just a few hundred metres from their bedroom window.

Mr McEvoy contacted the couple last week asking could he meet with them and explain the situation.

“This project has been in the planning process for some time, the previous owners were contacted and the details were discussed with them and they had no objection, letters were sent to all the neighbours advising them of the planning permit and explaining what the quarry would be used for.” McEvoy said.

Mr McEvoy, Todd and Harrison meet last Friday and during that meeting, Mr Mcevoy explained how the quarry would operate and that he hoped they would work together so it would have minimal impact and they could have good ongoing communication. There is still work to be done but it is a start,” he said

Mr. McEvoy added that the quarry will be used for their plantations and possibly only operating every couple of years for a couple of weeks in total crushing with a mobile plant and then very occasional truck pickups.”

“We will look at relocation of the stock pile so it has no visual impact,” he said.

“The whole operation will be very low-key.”
